At the time of the 1841 England Census William C Vine, aged about 35, farrier, and wife Mary, aged about 35, were living in Wilmington. At home were children: Ruth (5), and Mary (2), and [mother] Sarah Vine (40), widow. Also there were [William's brothers] Henry Vine (19) and Richd. Vine (17), apprentice shoemaker.
At the time of the 1851 England Census William C Vine, age 45, born in Wilmington Sussex, farrier, and wife Mary, age 45, born in Arlington Sussex, were living in Wilmington Sussex. With them were children Vincent (20) of Hellingly, farrier, Ruth (14) of Hellingly, employed at home, Mary (11) of Wilmington, employed at home, Sarah (9) of Wilmington, Betsy (5) of Wilmington.

With them were daughter Ruth Vine (24) of Hellingly, milliner, and mother Sarah Vine (76) of Wilmington, widow, proprietor of houses.
