In December 1632 John Bright of Hailsham, cook, was a surety for the marriage licence between Stephen Foster of Hailsham, warpspinner, and Amy Pierse of the same place, widow.
In 1638 John Bright was a witness to the Will of his mother-in-law Agnes Woolfe, widow, in which he is named as the husband of Agnes's daughter Mercy.

Gives 4 shillings to the poor of the parish of Hailsham.
Gives & bequests to his wife Mercie all goods and money that came from her mohter, as well as £10, a fletch of bacon, and his best bed in the chamber above the hall.
Gives £20 to his son George, making his brother[-in-law] Crowherst trustee.
Gives £5 to his son-in-law John Hewet and the leases of his house and land, and makes him the sole executor of his Will.
