Research Notes:
During the early to mid 1600s there were two Edward Pankhursts living in East Sussex. One, the son of another Edward Pankhurst, was born in 1589 in Wilmington and was most likely the same Edward who raised a family in Hellingly (a little under 8 miles north of Wilmington). There is no entry for another Edward Pankhurst in the baptismal registers for East Sussex before 1651. An Edward son of James Pankhurst was born in 1582 in Lenham Kent, 24 miles north of Ewhurst, or just under 26 miles north of Burwash where he married Elizabeth Holliman (Burwash is just under 10 miles west of Ewhurst).
For a few years after his marriage Edward lived and worked in Sedlescombe, just over 3½ miles due south of Ewhurst. Daughters Alice and Mary were born/christened in Sedlescombe. In the early 1620s the family were in Westfield (just over 2 miles south-west of Sedlescombe) where son William was born. By 1626 the family were in Ewhurst in which year their youngest daughter Elizabeth was born.
Marriage Information:
Edward married Elizabeth Holliman on 2 Feb 1613 in Burwash, Sussex, England. (Elizabeth was buried on 26 Apr 1669 in Ewhurst, Sussex, England.)
