In 1861 Stephen Sutton, aged 23, born ing Brinkworth Wilts, police constable, was in St. James Square, Westminster, Middesex.

In 1871 Stephan Sutton, aged 33, born in Brinkworth Wilts, sergeant, and wife Harriet, aged 43, born in Brinkworth Wilts, were living in Rock Hill, Chipping Norton, Oxon. With them were children: Millicent A. (8) of Adderbury Oxon, scholar, Stephan (5) of Headington Oxon, scholar.

In 1881 Stephen Sutton, aged 43, born in Brinkworth Wilts, police sergeant, widower, was living in Charlbury Oxfordshire. At home were children: Millicent A. (18) of Adderbury, scholar, Stephen (15) of Headington, scholar, Laura M. (9) of Chipping Norton.

In 1891 Stephen Sutton, aged 53, born in Brinksworth Wilts, superintendent of police, and [2nd] wife Martha, aged 35, born in Stonesfield Oxon were living in Police Station, Chipping Norton Oxon. Present were children: Agnes [sic] M M (19) of Chipping Norton, Lillian (5), Frank (4), Syrill (3) and Fred (1), all of Chipping Norton.

In 1901 Stephen Sutton, aged 63, born in Brinkworth Wilts, superintendent of police, and wife Martha, aged 45, born in Chipping Norton were living at 1a Newland Rd., Neithrop Oxon. At home were children (all unmarried): Maud (29), Lily (15), Frank (14), Cyril (13), Fred (11), May (9), Ivy (7).

OBITUARY.—The death occurred at 27 Queen Street, Banbury, on Tuesday at the advanced age of 83, of Mr. Stephen Sutton, who had served in the police force for a period extending over forty years. He joined the Metropolitan Police in 1858, and the Oxfordshire Constabulary in 1861, retiring as first-class superintendent in April, 1902. He was devoted to his profession, and received many compliments from magistrates, county court and criminal judges: and the last token of approval was signified in respect of his elucidation of the mystery attending a number of burglaries in the northern part of his division.

DEATH OF EX-SUPERINTENDENT SUTTON.—The death took place at Banbury on Tuesday of Mr. Stephen Sutton, formerly Superintendent of the Oxfordshire County Police, stationed at various places in the county. Mr. Sutton joined the Oxfordshire Constabulary in 1861 and retired as first class superintendent on April 1, 1902, having completed 41 years' service. He was 83 years of age, and his death followed an operation.
