Co-executrix with her sister Christian of their father's Will (proved 1609).
Edith Horsell is first named as a beneficiary in the Will of John Parsons of Wootton Bassett, Gent. (written 20 Oct 1622) as "now wife of Henry Horsall" and to whom John bequeaths 40 shillings. John Parsons also names her children Bartholomew, Anne, Elizabeth and Christian, all under the age of 21. John Parsons does not indicate what his relationship to Edith is. However, John also names as beneficiaries of his Will his 'sister' Christian Bath and his 'brother' Robert Bath , both of whom left wills. In the will of Edith's father, John Bathe of Wootton Bassett, he calls John Parsons his son-in-law. Given how son-in-law is interpreted in the current day, it is easy to assume that John Parsons married an unnamed daughter of John Bathe who died before he wrote his Will. However, as reasoned by 'Aunt Kate' here, John Bathe's Will makes more sense (as do then the others referred to below) if John Parsons was John Bathe's stepson, most likely a son of John Bathe's wife Alice by an earlier marriage. In these old wills, the term 'son-in-law' was often used in this fashion. The interpretation of 'son-in-law' as stepson is similar in this respect to the interpretation of 'brother-in-law', for example, as either stepbrother or half-brother, such as in the following....
In the 1631 Will of
William Parsons of Broadtown in the nearby parish of Clyffe Pypard, yeoman, William names his 'sister-in-law' Edith Horsell , wyddowe, and bequeaths to her one weight of wool and a bushell of wheat. William also nominates his 'brother-in-law' Robert Bathe as one of the overseers of his last will and testament. In the 1622 Will of John Parsons, he made bequests to the children of his brother William Parsons, the same children later named in William's Will.
Edith Horsell is next named as a beneficiary in the Will of Christian Baath of Wootton Bassett (written 10 Mar 1635/6). Christian refers to Edith Horsell as her sister and bequeaths her £10 and her best coverlet.
Christian names as beneficiaries Edith's children Anne, Christian and Bartholomew.
Christian names as a beneficiary her brother Robert Baath , also called 'brother' in the Will of John Parsons.
Edith died in 1638.
In the Will of Robert Baath of Wootton Bassett, Gent. (written 6 Aug 1645), he names as beneficiaries (among others) Edith's and Henry's children Anne Horsell, Christian Horsell and Bartholomew Horsell. Witnesses to Robert's Will were Richard Baath and John Parsons.
