COLLINGBOURNE DUCIS.

OLDEST INHABITANT'S DEATH.—The funeral of the oldest inhabitant of Collingbourne Ducis, Mrs. James Davis, took place on Friday. Mrs. Davis, who had reached the advanced age of 88 years, had been infirm for some years, but she retained to the end a wonderful memory and a beautiful simplicity and courtesy of manner. The family had lived for many years in a small cottage held on copy-hold from the Ailesbury Estate, and at the recent sale were able to acquire the property, which was a source of considerable satisfaction, as the view commanded the church gate and chancel, which had been the scene of their unremitting labours for so many years. The interment was in the churchyard, the first part of the service being held in the church. Miss Wiltshire, at the organ, played appropriate music, and the hymn, "Rock of Ages," was sung. The Rector (the Rev. J. Carey) conducted the service. Mrs. Davis had been an earnest member of the Mothers' Union, and the Branch was well represented. The mourners were Mrs. Pearce (daughter), Mrs. Russ (grand-daughter), Mr. Russ, Mrs. Sims and Mrs. Allen. Many beautiful wreaths were sent, including one from the Mothers' Union. At the evening service on Sunday the Rector paid a tribute to the memory of Mrs. Davis.
