Edward Gale died aged 68 years (burial record).
----------------------------
The birthplace and parentage of Edward Gale are not known. Edward married his first wife Joane Bond in Chippenham Wiltshire in 1654, before moving south-east to Collingbourne Kingston by 1655, a distance of between 29 and 30 miles. Their eldest child, John, was christened in Collingbourne Kingston in October 1655. Chippenham, where Joane was born, is just under 7 miles west of the parish of Calne, where an Edward Gale was christened on 7 Sep 1629, son of Edward Gale and Mary Beazur.
Alternatively, there was an Edward Gale, son of Andrew Gale, christened 25 May 1629 in Chipping Sodbury Gloucestershire (about 19½ miles NW of Chippenham). If Andrew was Edward's father, then it could explain the transmission of the name Andrew through succeeding generations. Nonetheless, the fact Edward was residing in Chippenham at the time of his marriage does suggest he was kindred to the Gale families who had a strong presence in Chippenham, Calne and adjoining parishes during the 1600s. Furthermore, it is possible that the abovenamed Andrew Gale originally hearked from Wiltshire and was the same Andrew Gale who was christened in Bremhill-by-Calne on 2 May 1602 (parents' names not recorded) and married in Chipping Sodbury on 7 Jul 1628. The bride's name was not recorded.
