In 1881 Frederick Matthews, aged 40, born in Collingbourne Kingston, boot maker, and wife Mary Jane, aged 24, born in Collingbourne Kingston, were living on Marlboro-to-Salisbury Road, Collingbourne Kingston. Present were son Frederick Baily Matthews (10 mo) of Collingbourne Kingston, father-in-law George Bailey (57) of Chute Wilts., widowed boot maker.

In 1891 Frederick Mathews, aged 50, born in Collingbourne Kingston, shoe maker (master), married, was living in Collingbourne Kingston. Present were sons (born in Collingbourne Kingston): Frederick (10), scholar, Ernest (8), scholar, Joshua (6), scholar, Cecil (4), scholar.
