In March 1832 Joseph Matthews was present at the marriage of his sister Hannah Matthews to John Nutley in Collingbourne Kingston.

In 1841 Joseph Mathews, aged 29, ag lab, and wife Charlotte, aged 26, were living in Burbage, Wilts.

In 1851 Joseph Mathews, aged 39, born in Collingbourne, ag. lab., and wife Charlotte, aged 36, born in Burbage, were living in Burbage. Present were children: Joseph (7) of Preshute, scholar, Ann (3) of Burbage, George (2) of Burbage.

In 1861 Joseph Matthews, aged 48, born in Collingbourne, ag lab, and wife Charlotte, aged 44, born in Burbage, were living in Eastcott, Burbage. Present Joseph J. (17) of Preshute, and born in Burbage: Ann S. (13), scholar, George W. (12).
