1 Most sources show Anne (sometimes called Agnes) as the wife of William Maskelyne, the latter named in the Will of Richard Stevens (1520) as father of Thomas. William was one of the witnesses to said will. However, in Genealogical and Heraldic History of the Landed Gentry of Great Britain and Ireland, Vol. 2, 1879, p. 1834, Anne is shown as the wife of Thomas Maskelyne, son of William Maskelyne and Eleanor. Anne's grandson, Edmund Maskelyne, was to become the eventual heir of William Maskelyne. The Wiltshire Visitation shows only that George and Robert were brothers and does not provide a first name for their father. Until evidence to the contrary presents itself, Anne will be shown here as married to William Maskelyne rather than to Thomas.
