He was a Staff Sergeant and Gunnery Instructor in the U.S. Army Air Forces during WWII, and flew 50 missions over Europe including Normandy and the Balkans in a B24 Liberator. He was a homebuilder for 50 years and was a member of First United Methodist Church in Odem.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Lorena J. Bownds; his parents, Jesse L. and Pearl (Bohls) Bownds; and sister, Evelyn Bownds.
He is survived by a daughter, Joye L. Bownds; two sons, Jesse and Johnny Bownds; 6 grandchildren, Reagan Amber, and Garrett Bownds, Rick and T.J. Dyer and Travis Bownds. 2
