Not with his family in 1841. At that time his wife Ann Carthew (45), widow (crossed out), was living in Guilford Phillack. Present were children: William (25), smith, Benjamin (15), smith, Elizabeth (20), Francis (12), smith, Josiah (10).
In 1851 John Carthew (61) of Gwithian, married, house servant to John Floyd, inn keeper, was in Penpoll Terrace, Phillack. Wife Ann Carthew (60) of Gwithian again calling herself a widow, housekeeper, was living in Guilford Phillack. With her was son Josiah (21), boiler maker.
