In 1841 Francis Holman (45), engine man, and wife Elizabeth (35) were living in Carharrack, Gwennap. Present were children: James (15), Thomas (14), Mary (12), Francis (8)

In 1851 Francis Holman (55) of Crowan, engine man, and wife Elizabeth (48) of Illogan, were living in Carharrack, Gwennap. Present were children: Francis (17) of Wendron, blacksmith, Stephen (8) of Gwennap, son-in-law James Pearce* (25) of Wendron, copper miner

* Called James Holman in 1841 and James Pearce in 1861 (with whom his 'brother-in-law' Stephen Holman—son of Francis—was staying). This would indicate that Elizabeth was a widow when she married Francis Holman, confirmed by the fact that Elizabeth Holman was staying with her son James Pearce when the 1861 and 1871 censuses were taken.
