Research Notes:
At the time of the 1851 Scotland Census Janet Wilson, aged 80, born in Tarbolton Ayrshire, widow, farmer of 48 acres employing 3 labourers, was living in Knowhead, Tarbolton. With her were daughter Mary Wilson (41) of Tarbolton, unmarried, servants John Cunningham (24)* of Tarbolton, farm labourer, Janet Dunlop (19) of Symington, house servant, James Craig (16) of Riccarton, farm labourer.
* Janet's grandson (eldest son of Elizabeth Wilson and William Cunningham)
---------------------------
Died at 1:30pm, age 89 years. The informant of death was son[-in-law] William Reid. I've been unable to determine which of Janet's daughters William married - Janet, Mary or Margaret. The OPRs for Ayrshire record marriages of a William Reid to a Janet Wilson and a Margaret Wilson in 1837 in Dalry and 1844 in Loudoun respectively. However, an examination of both families in the 1851 Censuses for these parishes shows that neither of these women could have been daughters of Adam Wilson and Janet Cowan.
Marriage Information:
Janet married Adam Wilson, son of Adam Wilson and Janet Muir, on 13 Dec 1796 in Laigh, Tarbolton, Ayshire, Scotland 1. (Adam Wilson was born in 1765 in Hillside, Tarbolton, Ayrshire, Scotland, christened on 14 Oct 1765 in Tarbolton, Ayrshire, Scotland, died on 23 Dec 1840 in Tarbolton, Ayrshire, Scotland and was buried on 28 Dec 1840 in Tarbolton, Ayrshire, Scotland.)
