SUDDEN DEATH OF A HOP AND FRUIT GROWER.—Considerable sensation was occasioned in Sittingbourne on Saturday evening by the death of Mr. Charles Burley, hop and fruit grower, which occurred very suddenly shortly before 10 o'clock. Mr. Burley was in the Bull Hotel at the time talking to some friends, when he left the bar, and a few minutes afterwards he was found in the lavatory lying face downwards, with blood issuing from his mouth. Medical aid was summoned, but life was found to be extinct; the doctor certifying that death was the result of apoplexy. Mr. Burley was an extensive hop and fruit grower; he was also engaged in the brick and cement trade, and likewise in the barge industry. He leaves a widow and several children, for whom much sympathy is felt. The deceased was formerly a member of the Sittingbourne Local Board and of the Board of Guardians. He was a prominent Freemason, and took a conspicuous part in the formation of St. Michael's Lodge, No. 1,273, of which he was one of the first W.M.'s. It was largely through his instrumentality that a Masonic Hall was erected in Albany-street a few years since.
