According to the Complete Peerage, Isolda was the daughter of Edmund Mortimer and his wife Margaret de Fiennes. However, this is chronologically impossible if Isolda gave birth to her son Hugh Audley in [1289]. It is therefore assumed that Isolt was Edmund Mortimer's illegitimate daughter, although no proof has been found that this is correct. Another possibility is that she was Edmund's sister. Her name suggests a Welsh origin. Edmund Mortimer gave her and her first husband the manor of Arley, Staffordshire. 1
