He succeeded his father in 1139 as Earl [of Derby]. [Earl of Nottingham]: “Robertus junior comes de Notingham” donated property to Tutbury Priory by charter dated 1141 which names “Hauwisiæ matris meæ”.
He founded the abbey of Merevale, Warwickshire, where he was buried. 2
