Abstract of the Will of Nevil Maskelyne of Pyrton in the County of Wilts, Esqr., written 15 Jun 1708, 1st codicil, 18 Apr 1709, proved 2 Dec 1712. 4
Gives and bequeaths £200 to his younger children, namely Jane, Anne, Sarah, William, Elizabeth, Edmund, Alice, James Houblon and Wyn Maskelyne.
Gives to his said daughter Jane an annuity of £20 and to his other younger children £15 per year.
Gives and devises to his friend Edmund Pleydell of Midgehall in co. Wilts, esq., his kinsman Wyn Houblon of London, esq., and to his sister Jane Leach, widow, his capital messuage with thirteen acres of meadow or pasture called Uphayes, and other meadows called Bray Close and Broad Mead of similar extent, as well as other pasture ground called Dennevers, the home Close, Barn Close, Kingsbury, &c.
Gives the custody and tuition of his eldest son Nevil Maskelyne to the said Edmund Pleydell, Wyn Houblon and Jane Leach, appointing them guardians of his said son until he reaches the age of twenty-one years.
In a codicil to his will he includes as Trustees of his will the Rev. Mr. William Bath, vicar of Purton, and John Wells of Cricklade.
Appoints his eldest daughter Jane Maskelyne housekeeper and governness of his younger children, under the direction of his Trustees.
