At the time of the 1841 England Census Thomas Akhurst, aged about 20, ag lab, was with his siblings in Dun Street, Boxley Kent.

At the time of the 1851 England Census Thomas Akhurst, age 28, born in Bredgar Kent, unmarried, farm bailiff, was on Barnsole Farm, Gillingham Kent.

At the time of the 1861 England Census Thomas Akhurst, age 36, born in Bredgar Kent, victualler, and wife Mary, age 32, born in Stalisfield Kent, were living in Rainham Kent. With them were sons (born in Rainham): Robert (6), scholar, Edwin S (3) and Thomas (1), and niece Martha E Maxted* (15) of Pluckley.

* Martha Elizabeth Maxted was the daughter of John Maxted and Elizabeth Wilcox (Thomas's sister-in-law).

At the time of the 1871 England Census Thomas Akhurst, age 49, born in Bredgar Kent, widower, ag lab, was living in Station Rd., Rainham Kent. With him were sons (born in Rainham): Robert (16), ag lab, and Thomas (10), scholar.

ANOTHER SUDDEN DEATH.—On Thursday evening an inquest was held at the Kent Volunteers Inn, Rainham, before Thomas Hills, Esq., coroner, on the body of a labourer, 53 years of age, named Thomas Akhurst, who was found dead in his bed on the previous morning. Dr. Penfold stated that the cause of death was heart disease, and a jury returned a verdict to that effect....
