At the time of the 1851 England Census Elizabeth Spittle, age 51, born in Bredgar Kent, widow, grocer & draper, was living in Borden Street, Borden Kent. With her were daughters (born in Borden): Elizabeth Ann (21), dressmaker, Caroline (19). Son William was living at a different address in the same street.
At the time of the 1861 England Census Elizabeth Spittle, age 62, born in Bredgar Kent, widow, formerly grocer, was living in Wise's Lane, Borden Kent. Son William and his family were living in grocer's shop in the same Lane.
At the time of the 1871 England Census Elizabeth Spittle, age 71, born in Bredgar Kent, widow, retired grocer, was living in Wise's Lane, Borden Kent. Son William and his family were in the same lane.
At the time of the 1881 England Census Elizabeth Spittle, age 82, born in Bredgar Kent, widow, was living in Borden Street, Borden. Son William and his family were in the same street.

BORDEN.
DEATH OF MRS. SPITTLE.—One of the oldest inhabitants of Borden passed away to her rest on Monday last in the person of Mrs. George Spittle, who has been a widow nearly 52 years. Mrs. Spittle was born at Bredgar in the year 1799. Her kind and cheerful disposition had endeared her to all around, and she was the Dorcas of many a househould [sic], and will be greatly missed. She had been a member of the Congregational Church, Milton, for some 50 years ; she leaves four daughters and one son, 19 grandchildren, and 25 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Spittle was one of a family of 14, two of which only survive. The funeral will take place at Borden Churchyard on Monday next.
