290. ROGER LESTRAUNGE or LE ESTRANGE.
  Writ, 10 August, 23 Edward III. [1349]
CAMBRIDGE. Inq. taken at Middelton, 21 August, 23 Edward III.
  Middelton. A third part of the manor (extent given), held of Thomas, bishop of Ely, by service of 2d. yearly; 40a. arable held of the same bishop by service of 1d. yearly; and two parts of the manor (extent given), together with the advowson of the church, held jointly with Maud his wife, who many years ago went the way of all flesh, of the same bishop by service of 4d. yearly, of the gift of John de Arne, chaplain, to the said Roger and Maud his wife and the heirs of their bodies.
He died on Wednesday before St. Peter’s Chains last. Roger, son of the said Roger and Maud, aged 22 years and more, is his heir.

OXFORD. Inq. made at Mudelynton, 17 August, 23 Edward III.
  Burcestre. The manor (extent given, showing decreases in rents owing to the pestilence), including a carucate of land of 112a. and a market, held of the duke of Cornwall, as of the honour of Walyngford, by service of a third part of a knight’s fee.
Mudelynton. The manor (extent given, showing similar decreases), including 7a. meadow in Kyngessutton and Heyford, and a view of frank pledge after Michaelmas, held of the king in chief by service of a quarter of a knight’s fee.
Great Tuwe. 10s. rent held of the earl of Arundel by service of a rose yearly.
He held no other lands &c. in the county.
He died on 29 July last. Roger his son, aged 23 years and more, is his heir.

LINCOLN. Inq. taken at Grantham, Monday, the eve of the Nativity of the Blessed Mary, 23 Edward III.
  Horbelyng. The manor (extent given), including certain tenants who hold five bovates of land, by service of a tenth part of a knight’s fee, and render yearly for the ward of the castle of Lincoln 2s. 6d., six customary tenants, who hold six messuages in bondage and six bovates of land, giving yearly to the aid of the said manor 40s. called le Stuf, held as of his own inheritance, of the earl of Richmond by service of a moiety of a knight’s fee, and 10s. yearly for the ward of the castle of Lincoln.
Segbrok. The manor (extent given), similarly held of the earl of Suffolk, as of the honour of Eye, service not known.
He died in the manor of Segbrok on Wednesday before St. Peter’s Chains, 23 Edward III. Roger le Estraunge, his son, aged 24 years, is his heir.

SALOP. Inq. taken at Shrewsbury, Thursday after St. Bartholomew, 23 Edward III.
  Ellesmere in the March of Wales. The fortalice (forcellatum), with the hundred (extent given, showing decrease in values owing to the pestilence), including a market, held of the king in chief by service of a twentieth part of a knight’s fee.
He died on Wednesday after St. James last. Roger his son, aged 23 years at the feast of the Purification last, is his heir.
Colmere and Hampton. The hamlets, held of the king in chief by service of a tenth part of a knight’s fee.
There are no buildings or demesne lands there, but there used to be 4l. yearly rent, but now only 10s. because of the pestilence.

  Seggebrok. The manor (extent given), held of the earl of Suffolk, as of the honour of Eye, by homage and fealty only.
Horblyng. The manor (extent given), held of the earl of Richmond by service of a moiety of a knight’s fee and 10s. yearly for ward of the castle of Lincoln. The extent includes four bovates of land held by free tenants by service of a tenth part of a knight’s fee and 2s. 6d. yearly towards the ward of the castle of Lincoln and 15s. rent; and three bondmen who pay 40s. yearly towards the aid called ‘le Stouth.’
He died on 2 August, 23 Edward III. Roger his son, aged 23 years and more, is his heir.
