The Annalista Saxo records "Popo" father of "Odalricum" as brother of "Willehelmi et Ottonis marchionum", but this is chronologically difficult to sustain. It is therefore more likely that Poppo was the son of Wilhelm [II] than Wilhelm [III] but the primary source which confirms this has not yet been identified.
He succeeded in 1012 as POPPO I Marchese di Carniola e Istria. 1
