Adela (Gerloc) de Normandie, comtesse de Poitou 1
- Born: Abt 917, Normandie, Neustria
- Married: Abt 935
- Died: After 969
Research Notes:
Guillaume de Jumièges records that Rollo captured “Baiocasensem urbem” [Bayeux] along with "nobilissimam puellam...Popam filiam...Berengarii illustris viri" whom he married “more Danico” and by whom he had “Willelmum...filiamque...Gerloc”. Robert of Torigny also names "Willermum Longum Spatam et Gerloch" as children of "Rollo dux Northmannorum" and Poppa. Guillaume of Jumièges records the marriage of “dux...sororem eius...Gerlco” and "Willelmus Pictavensis comes”.
She adopted the name ADELA when baptised. "Guillelmi comitis, Adeleidis comitisse" subscribed a charter recording a donation to Cluny dated [963]. Lothaire King of France granted her 14 Oct 962 the right to dispose of extensive property in Poitiers, la Cour de Faye, this grant effectively putting an end to the long dispute between her husband and the family of Hugues "Capet". She used the property to found the Monastery of Sainte-Trinité. 2

Gerloc married Guillaume III, duc d' Aquitaine, "Tête d'Etoupes", son of Ebles II Mancer "le Bâtard", comte de Poitiers and Emilienne, about 935. (Guillaume III, duc d' Aquitaine was born between 900 and 915 in Poitiers, Aquitaine, died on 3 Apr 963 in Poitiers, Poitou, France and was buried in Saint-Cyprien de Poitiers, Poitou, France.)
