At the time of the 1901 England Census George Putland, age 18, born in Lewes Sussex, was working as a cook for boarding house proprietor James Usher at 25 Bath Road, Bournemouth, Hampshire.

In Nov 1902 George Putland was present at the marriage of his sister Margaret Mary Putland to Frank Luther in Southover.
