  Research Notes:

John Savage, K.G., of Clifton and Rocksavage, Cheshire, Knight of the Body, Chamberlain of Middlewich, Mayor of Chester, aged 40 in 1463.

In 1470 he and his sons, John, Thomas, and Humphrey, attacked Robert Legh, Esq., of Adlington, Cheshire, in an affray at Hurdsfield, Cheshire. In 1471 he and his son, John, took a lease of the Halton fishery at 4s. per year. In 1473 he and his son, John, were appointed park keepers of Macclesfield, Cheshire, during pleasure. He presented to the Church of Barrow, Cheshire in 1473 and 1488. In 1477 he was granted an annuity of 20 marks by the king. He fought at the Battle of Bosworth in 1485. In 1486 he was granted custody of Macclesfield Park, Cheshire, for life. In 1488 he and four others gave recognizance to the Earl of Chester for 1,000 marks that he and his servants would keep the peace towards Thomas Legh, Esq., and Adlington, and his children.....

John married Katherine STANLEY, daughter of Sir Thomas STANLEY, 1st Baron Stanley, and Joan GOUSHILL, in 1447. (Katherine STANLEY was born about 1430 in Stanley, Derbyshire, England, died in 1498 in Clifton, Cheshire, England and was buried in St. Michael's and All Angels Churchyard, Macclesfield, Cheshire, England.)
