Basina von Thüringen

  • Born: 438
  • Married (2): 463
  • Died: 499

  General Notes:

47/48 x great-grandmother

  Research Notes:

Gregory of Tours names Basina as wife of Basinus King of Thuringia, specifying that she deserted her first husband to join Childerich after he was restored as king in Gaul. The marriage date is estimated on the basis of how long Childerich was allegedly in exile, assuming that the date of his deposition is accurate, and appears to be consistent with the estimated dates of birth of the couple's descendants. The Liber Historiĉ Francorum records that "Childericus rex" committed adultery with "in Toringam…Basina regina uxorem Bisini regis" who abandoned her husband to join Childerich. Assuming that Basina existed, it is unlikely that her first name is correct considering that it is the feminine form of her first husband's name. 1

  Marriage Information:

Basina married Basinus von Thüringen, King of the Thuringian Franks. (Basinus von Thüringen died after 464.)

  Marriage Information:

Basina also married Childerich I Meroving, King of the Salian Franks, son of Merovech, Chief of the Salian Franks, about 463. (Childerich I Meroving was born in 436 in Wesphalia, Germany and died on 26 Nov 481 in Tournai, Walloon Region, Belgium.)
