Spouses/Children:
Roger I "le Vieux" de Comminges, comte de Carcassonne

Adélaïde (Adelais) de Melgueil

  • Born: Melgueil near Montpellier, Herault, Languedoc, France
  • Married: Before Apr 970
  • Died: After 1011, Comminges, France

   Also called Adélaïde de Pons.

  Research Notes:

"Rodgarius comes…cum Adalissa comitissa conjuge mea et Regimundo sobole" donated property "alodem meum de Corniliano" to the monastery of Saint-Hilaire, Carcassonne by charter dated 979, signed by "Adalaissæ comitissæ, Arnaudi comitis […], Regimundi sobolis meæ".

The origin of the wife of Roger [I] Comte de Carcassonne is unknown, although her first marriage is indicated by the reference to her son, presumably by this earlier marriage, in the charter just cited. Stasser has suggested that she was the daughter of Bernard Comte de Melgueil and his wife Sénégonde [de Rouergue], based on onomastic arguments. He suggests that "Petrus episcopus et comes" who subscribed the 979 charter may have been Pierre de Melgueil bishop of Maguelone, who would have been Adelais's brother. 1

  Marriage Information:

Adelais married Roger I "le Vieux" de Comminges, comte de Carcassonne, son of Arnaud I, comte de Comminges et de Couserans, and Arsinde de Carcassonne, before Apr 970. (Roger I "le Vieux" de Comminges was born between 930 and 940 in Carcassonne, Aude, Languedoc, France and died after Apr 1011 in Comminges, France.)
