Alberada DI BUONALBERGO
- Born: Abt 1032
- Married: Abt 1051
- Died: After 1058
Research Notes:
Amatus records that "Gerard who was called Buonalbergo" came to Robert "Guiscard" who was visiting his brother in Apulia, proposed his marriage to "my aunt, my father´s sister…Alberada" (specifying that Robert´s brother Drogo at first opposed the marriage) and agreed to serve him in Calabria, dated to [1050/51] from the context. Malaterra names "Alberadam" as the first wife of Robert "Guiscard", recording that they were separated on grounds of consanguinity, although the precise relationship between husband and wife is not known. The Chronica Mon. Casinensis names the first wife of Robert as "Alveradam amitam suam [=Girardus de bono alipergo]", recording the couple's separation on grounds of consanguinity. 1
Marriage Information:
Alberada married Robert I "Guiscard" DE HAUTEVILLE, Duca di Apulia & Calabria, son of Tancred DE HAUTEVILLE, Duca di Apulia, and Fressenda DE NORMANDIE, about 1051. (Robert I "Guiscard" DE HAUTEVILLE was born about 1020 in Hauteville, Manche, Normandy, France and died on 17 Jul 1085 at the siege of Phiscardo Bay, Cephalonia, Greece.)
