Adelais d' Angoulême, Queen of the Franks
- Born: Between 855 and 860, Paris, Île-de-France, France
- Married: Feb 875
- Died: 18 Nov 901
- Buried: église abbatiale Saint-Corneille, Compiègne, Oise, France
Research Notes:
Regino names "Adalheidis" second wife of "Hludowicus rex filius Caroli", stating that he married her after repudiating his first wife. Her paternity is indicated by Vulfard (who would have been the brother of Adelais) being named sororius of King Louis II. Her marriage was not recognised by the church which did not accept her husband's separation from his first wife. The Pope refused to crown Adelais with her husband at Troyes 878, considering that she was not his legitimate wife. Her children were considered illegitimate by the church. 1
Marriage Information:
Adelais married Louis II "le Bègue" Caroling, King of the West Franks, son of Charles II "le Chauve" Caroling, King of the West Franks, and Ermentrude d' Orléans, Queen of the West Franks, in Feb 875. (ouis II "le Bègue" Caroling was born on 1 Nov 846 in France, died on 10 Apr 879 in Compiègne, Oise, France and was buried in église collégiale Saint-Corneille, Compiègn, Oise, France.)
