He succeeded his father in 1190 as Earl of Leicester, while accompanying Richard I King of England on Crusade and was invested as such at Messina in 1191. He defended the duchy of Normandy against Philippe II King of France during King Richard's imprisonment in Austria, was captured 15 Jun 1194 and remained a prisoner until early 1196.
Steward of England. Robert son of Parnel, Earl of Leicester, donated property to the abbey of Lire for the soul of Loreta his wife, by charter dated to [1190/1204].
The Annales Cambriæ record the death in 1204 of "Robert comes Lerecestriæ". The necrology of Lyre monastery records the death "20 Oct" of "Robertus III comes Legrecestriæ". 1

Robert married Loretta DE BRAOSE, daughter of William III DE BRAOSE, 11th Lord Abergavenny, and Mathilde DE SAINT-VALÉRY, Lady de la Haie. (Loretta DE BRAOSE died on 4 Mar 1266.)
