Hugues, III. du nom, Seigneur de Broyes, de Châteauvillain & d'Arc-en-Barrois en 1168, eut deux femmes; la premiere fut Etiennette de Bar, fille de Renaud, dit le Borgne, I. du nom, Comte de Bar, & de Gilles de Vaudemont. Il en eut: --1. Simon, qui suit; --2. Emeline, mort sans avoir eu d'alliance en 1197; --3. Agnès, morte de même. La seconde femme fut Isabeau de Dreux, fille de Robert de France, Comte de Dreux, & d'Agnès de Braine. Ce dernier mariage lui donna un fils & une fille. --4. Simon, dit "le Jeune", Seigneur de Châteauvillain, qui fit la branche de ce nom, rapportée ci-après; --5. Ameline, mort fille en 1194 [sic].

The Chronicle of Alberic de Trois-Fontaines names "Hugonem de Brois qui iacet in Claravalle et Symonem de Belloforti" as sons of "Symon de Brois" & his wife[415]. Seigneur de Broyes et de Châteauvillain. "Simon dominus Belfortis" donated property to Chapelle-aux-Planches by charter dated 1152 in which he names "Hugone fratre meo domino de Brecis", in the presence of "domini Wilermi domini de Dampetra […et Heleidis mater eius…] et Milonis de Planceii"...
The Chronicle of Alberic de Trois-Fontaines names "Hugo de Brois" as son of "Symon domnus de Brois" & his wife, specifying that he held his lands "circiter per annos 80", which is exaggerated, recording in a later passage his death in 1199 and burial at Clairvaux[419]. "Hugo dominus Brecarum" donated property to Clairvaux, with the consent of "Elisabeth uxor mea et Symon filius meus junior et Emelina filia mea domina de Chanlita", by charter dated 1200
