In 1861, Charles is abroad in Australia. Wife Mary Ann Thomas (23) of Illogan [sic] was living in Wheal Buller Downs, Redruth, with son Charles Henry (1) of Redruth, and unmarried sister Elizabeth Thomas (25) of Gwennap, helper in housekeeping.
At the time of the 1871 Census, Charles is possibly abroad again. Wife Mary A. Thomas (33) of Gwennap, married, home duties, was living in Carnkie, Illogan with children: Charles H. (11) of Redruth, scholar, John (6), scholar, and Minnie (3), both born in Illogan
