"BLACKWOOD. (FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) MR. CHARLES DUNN, sen., one of the oldest residents of the district, died on Tuesday, August 29th, at the age of 82-years. He was one of the earliest arrivals on the Blackwood goldfield, dating from 1854. He was a share holder in the Crown mine-one of the good shows in the early days of Simmons Reef. For the past 35 years Mr. Dunn successfully carried on farming operations at Waldron's hill (formerly North Blackwood. He was one of the first settlers in that porton of the forest; and it was a forest then. Mr. Dunn had recently leased his farm to his grandson, Mr. G. Brown, and had built for himself, a commodious private residence in Station street, Trentham, where he and Mrs. Dunn were to have removed this week. At the time of his death Mr. Dunn was staying with his daughter, Mrs. S. Gamble, of Trentham. Deceased leaves a widow and grown up family of five sons and five daughters. The funeral took place on Thursday, 31st, in the Blackwood cemetery, and was largely attended. Members of the Trentham Rechabite Lodge, of which deceased was a member, attended in regalia. Mr. Faulkner, of'the Methodist church, officiated at the grave; and Mr. A. Hollis read the Rechabite service. The funeral arrangements were in the capable hands of Mr. T. Ross, of Kyneton. Bro.
