With the exception of a few years she had been a lifelong resident of Mineral Point. She attended Mineral Point Schools and worked as a clerk at the original Gundry and Grey Department Store. Verda was married on 25 May 1921 to James Halvor Fenley. They celebrated 70 years of marriage shortly before his death in 1991. She was a lifetime member of the Congregational United Church of Christ and a longtime member of the Rebecca Lodge and the Eastern Star Lodge. Until a recent loss of sight, Verda enjoyed sewing, quilting, and taking part in the many activities at the Mineral Point Care Center.
Survivors include daughters: Margaret Carlin (John) of Birmingham, Alabama and Verda Marie Moran (Larry) of Carmel, Indiana; a son Dale (Jan) of Madison, Wisconsin; daughter-in-law, Corinne Fenley, Orinda, California, sixteen grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, thirty-six great-grandchildren, seven step great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, James; sons, James (WW II), Kenneth and Robert; daughters-in-law, Lois Fenley and Reta Fenley; two grandsons and one great-grandson; brothers, Russell and Spencer Huxtable; and sister, Gladys Rogers.
