ERIE - Milton Joe Arthur, 80, of rural Erie died Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2003, at Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center in Chanute.
He was born Dec. 1, 1922, in rural Chanute to William and Mabel (Vivian) Arthur.
He attended Union Valley Grade School and graduated from Chanute High School in 1941.
He married Helen L. LaRue on July 23, 1944, in Chanute. She survives. The couple have lived on the family farm since 1945.
He was a farmer and dairyman until 1975, then had a beef, cow and calf operation until September.
He was a former member of Shaw Christian Church, and he served on the Shaw and Grady school boards and the Shaw Cemetery board.
He enjoyed woodworking and was a member of the Do-Si-Do Square Dance Club.
Survivors include two sons, John Arthur of Erie and Larry Arthur of Valrico, Fla.; two daughters, Sandra Kusel of Erie and Barbara Black of Rogers, Ark.; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Abbott Arthur of Chanute and Robert Arthur of Lancaster, Calif.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Violet Marie Arthur; and four brothers, Vivian, William, Raymond and Eugene Arthur.
