According to a secondary source, Josiah Williams worked for the Laity family in South England as their gardener. Josiah Williams fell in love with Mary Vivian Laity and they were married. She was completely disinherited by her family. Josiah and Mary bought a farm of their own and prospered.

In 1881 Josiah Williams, aged 40, born in Ludgvan, farm labourer, and wife Mary V. Williams, aged 47, born in St. Erth, farm labourer's wife, were living in White Cross, Ludgvan. Present were children Sarah (19), garden labourer, Henry (18), garden labourer, George (16), garden labourer, Kate (13), scholar, Eliza V. (22).
In 1891 Josiah Williams, aged 51, born in Ludgvan, farm labourer (ag), and wife Mary V. Williams, aged 57, born in St. Erth, were living in Turnpike Rd., Ludgvan. With them was daughter Kate H. (22) of Perran, agricultural labourer.
In 1901 Josiah Williams, aged 61, born in Ludgvan, farm labourer, and wife Mary V. Williams, aged 68, born in Ludgvan [sic], were living in Whitecross, Ludgvan.

Josiah married Mary Vivian Laity, daughter of John Laity of Goldsithney and Sally Vivian Rosewarne, on 15 May 1858 in Ludgvan, Cornwall. (Mary Vivian Laity was christened 4 Apr 1831 in St. Erth, Cornwall and died on 24 May 1903 in Ludgvan, Cornwall.)
