Mr. A. W. F. Laity, St. Austell.
The death of Mr. Ambrose William Fox Laity which occurred in the early hours of Wednesday morning of last week with such tragic suddenness came as a great shock to his many friends and acquaintenaces. On the previous day the deceased was apparently in his usual good health and had carried out his duties as representative of the Hearts of Oak and the Bristol and West of England and Wales Friendly Societies in the ordinary way without complaining. Soon after retiring to bed the deceased showed signs of a serious illness, and at midnight Dr. E. G. Andrew was called in, but could only pronounce that Mr. Laity's conditions was beyond human aid.
An inquiry was held on Wednesday and a verdict of "Death from heart failure" was returned.
By Mr. Laity's death a familiar resident has been removed. Previous to his appointment as the local representative for the friendly societies, Mr. Laity was a mineral water and cordial manufacturer and was well known throughout the district. Deceased was a native of Colenso, St. Hilary, near Penzance, but had resided in St. Austell over thirty years.
The funeral took place in the St. Austell cemetery on Saturday afternoon, the Rev. A. N. Nicholson officiating. There was a very large number present and both societies with which the deceased was identified, were well represented and testified to the general esteem in which he was held.
The mourners were the widow (Mrs. Laity), Mr. E. Laity (brother), Mrs. Harris (sister), Mr. T. Laity (brother), Mrs. E. Laity and Mrs. T. Laity (sisters-in-law), Messrs. J. Gilbert and W. Gilbert (nephews), Miss Louie Butler (niece), Miss J. Banfield, Messrs. W. Ford, Common, C. Beard, D. Lyon, and W. Chapman.....
