In 1851 Nicholas Oliver,a ged 25, born in Phillack Cornwall, labourer in boiler yard, and wife Caroline Oliver, aged 23, born in Redruth Cornwall, were living in North of Trevassack, Phillack. With them were daughter Elizabeth Ann (2) of Redruth, and brother Joseph (21) of Phillack, labourer in iron foundry.
In 1861 Nicholas Oliver, aged 35, born in Phillack, general labourer, and wife Caroline Oliver, aged 30, born in Redruth, were living in Hayle, Back Row, Phillack. With them were children: Willm. H. (8), scholar, John N. (7), scholar, Caroline (5), scholar, and niece Betsey H. Bishop (16) of St. Ives, spinster.
In 1881 Nicholas Oliver, aged 55, born in Phillack, labourer, and wife Caroline Oliver, aged 51, born in Redruth, were living in St. John's St., Phillack. With them were children (born in Phillack) John (27), labourer, Harriet (17), dressmaker, and Bessie (14), scholar.
In 1901 Nicholas Oliver, aged 77, born in Breage [sic], quay labourer, and wife Caroline Oliver, aged 71, born in Redruth, were living in St. John's St., Phillack.

Nicholas Oliver of St. John St. died aged 76 years (burial record). Age understated by five years. Ages given in the censuses are closer to correct.

HAYLE.
Mr. Nicholas Oliver, of St. John's Street, passed away at his residence on Wednesday. Deceased, who was of advanced age, had been employed on the coal wharf at Hayle, where he was a well-known figure. Much sympathy is felt for his widow in her sad bereavement.
The funeral took place at Phillack Churchyard on Sunday morning of Mr. Nicholas Oliver, of St. John's Street. Deceased, who was of advanced age, had only ceased work a few days. Several of his former workmates followed the remains to the graveside.
