"PLATTEVILLE - Dale J. "Buck" Rogers, age 88, of Platteville, died on Monday, Nov. 3, 2003, at Southwest Health Center Nursing Home, Cuba City. He was born on Oct. 7, 1915, in Cuba City, Wis., the son of Orville and Mary Rogers.
Dale was united in marriage to Helen Eustice on Jan. 4, 1940, in Cuba City. Helen preceded Dale in death on Aug. 15, 1997. He served in the United States Cavalry. When Dale was a young man he became a licensed funeral director and worked for Thomas Funeral Home, Platteville. He purchased Arcade Bowling Lanes in the 1950s, built two more locations including the present bowling lanes. He spent 40 years in the bowling business, where he was a member and director of the state's Bowling Proprietors Association. He was an avid bowler for more than 50 years including many tournaments and accolades. He participated in many state and national tournaments.
Dale was a charter member of both the Dubuque and Platteville 700 clubs. He was a member of Platteville United Methodist Church, Platteville Kiwanis Club, Elks Lodge, American Legion Post No. 42, and Platteville Golf & Country Club for more than 50 years, where he was former president and member of the board of directors. He was a past member of the Platteville Chamber of Commerce and was honored as business person of the year. He was instrumental in the organization of the Platteville Sports Boosters where he was past president. He also served as a former director of Mound City Bank, Platteville. Dale bowled a perfect 300 game, had a hole in one, and the perfect cribbage hand which he was proud of.
He is survived by his two children, David (Ruth) Rogers of Menomonee Falls and Palm Springs, Calif., and Elizabeth (Larry) Spees of Hancock; five grandchildren, Debbie (Allan) Land of Menomonee Falls, the Rev. David Jeffrey (Kelly) Rogers of LaPorte, Ind., Lori (Michael) Tompkins of Dousman, Aaron (Tonia) Spees of Hancock, and Jason (Britney) Spees of Little Rock, Ark.; nine great-grandchildren, Morgan and Trevor Land, Tianna, Haley, Celine, and Josiah Rogers, and Seth, Olivia, and Chloe Tompkins; a sister, Leone (Charles) Sommerfeld of Madison; a brother, Dean (Lavonne) Rogers of Cuba City; sister-in-law, Mary (Clayton) Droullard of Whitewater; special friends, Dick and Joann Rice of Platteville; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Helen, on Aug. 15, 1997; parents; a sister, Lucille Severance; and a brother, Harold Rogers...." 1
