Research Notes:
"DEATH OF A PROMINENT WESLEYAN.The congregation at Wesley chapel and many of the business and other people of the town will miss the friendly form of Mr. James Hancock who died rather suddenly on Wednesday. Deceased, through his remarkably genuine Christian character won the respect of all men, for there was no swerving with him. At revival and other devotional meetings he was a foremost figure, and was known to be a Christian in deed and in truth. He had for a few weeks been laid aside with an unnatural growth internally, but had so far recovered as to be able to go and hear Mr. Hector, the coloured missionary, on Sunday last. On Wednesday he was seized with a sharp pain, and left his world with a bright testimony behind which will live for many a year." 3
