"Janet Dudgeon, daughter of Alexander and Mary Dudgeon was born June 2, 1856 at Guelph, Ontario, Canada.
At the age of 10 years she moved with her parents to Calumet, Mich.
She was married June 17, 1873 to Richard T. Barkell.
They made their home in Calumet, Mich., until 1884 when they moved to a farm near Carleton. In 1921 they retired from their farm and located in Carleton where they spent their remaining years.
Sixty two years of happy wedded life was ended when her life companion left her on April 26.
Life without him was too empty and on June 12 she went to join him, having attained the age of 79 years, 9 days.
Surviving her are three sons, Alex and Will of Pine Bluffs, Wyo. and Ralph of Carleton and three daughters Ella Capron of Carleton, Mayme of Beatrice and Mrs. Georgia Emerick of Wauneta, one son-in-law, two daughters-in-law, 13 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and two brothers, Alex and John Dudgeon.
A sister preceded her in death just two weeks ago.
Mrs. Burkell was a charter member of the Brethren Church of Carleton and was a faithful member for approximately 40 years...." 2
