"Darlene Joy Horsley, 65, of rural Wessington Springs, died Tuesday, July 25, 2006, at home.
Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church with the Revs. John Paulson and Keith Kraft officiating.
Burial will be in Hope Cemetery, rural Wessington Springs.
Visitation will be Friday at Basham Funeral Home from 1 to 5 p.m. and at the church from 7 to 9 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.
Darlene Joy Schuldt was born April 9, 1941, at Mitchell to Clarence and Gertrude (Ehrlich) Schuldt. She was raised on the family farm at Emery. She attended Taylor Township School at Emery, Bridgewater schools and graduated from Alexandria High School in 1959. She graduated from National School of Business in Rapid City.
On Nov. 27, 1959, she married Leroy Horsley at Alexandria. They lived in Rapid City, moved to Wessington Springs in 1960, moved to Hitchcock in 1966 and returned to Wessington Springs in 1971.
She was employed at Weskota Manor in Wessington Springs for 20 years and VanDykes/Cabelas for 18 years. She was a 4-H Leader for 35 years and will be inducted this year into the South Dakota 4-H Hall of Fame at the South Dakota State Fair. She was a member of the Ladies Home Extension Club for 40 years. She was active in the church as Sunday school superintendent and teacher and the Lutheran Women's Group. She participated in Relay for Life the past three years. She was Thrivent Financial secretary for the past four years and won the Volunteer of Excellence award for South Dakota, Iowa and part of Minnesota. She was the rabbit secretary for the open class for 13 years and rabbit superintendent for two years at the State Fair and an active participant at rabbit shows.
She is survived by her husband; four children, Darrel (Betti) of Sioux Falls, Darla (William) Parks of Gillette, Wyo., David (Cheryl) of Humboldt and Doran (Christie) of Mitchell; seven grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; a stepgreat-granddaughter; a brother, Marvin (Sheri) of Mitchell; and two sisters, Judy (Clifford) Wright of White and Shirley (Roger) Barnhouse of Salem.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a stepgrandson."
