Elizabeth GELLARD
- Christened: 17 May 1703, Wendron, Cornwall 1
- Married: 10 Dec 1726, Wendron, Cornwall
- Buried: 11 Apr 1747, Wendron, Cornwall 2
Another name for Elizabeth was Elizabeth GILLARD.
Research Notes:
An Elizabeth Gillard , eldest daughter of Alexander Gillard, was christened in Wendron 8 Feb 1709. Alexander was from Crowan, but he married in Wendron and all his other children were christened in Crowan, including another Elizabeth in May 1721, indicating that Elizabeth Gillard christened in 1709 died before 1721.
One other Elizabeth Gellard was christened 17 May 1703 in Wendron, youngest child of William Gillard; an Elizabeth Gillard daughter of William was buried there on 27 Feb 1715. At first one would assume they refer to the same individual. However, on examining the parish registers for Wendron and surrounding parishes, the William Gillard who was father of Elizabeth (b. 1703) was probably the same William who died in 1709. There is a five year gap before another William Gillard (for whom no baptism record exists) marries Elizabeth Nancarro in 1714, and it is likely that they had a daughter Elizabeth who died in infancy. This Williamborn in the early 1690s and who was probably an elder brother of Elizabethremarried to Mary Hambly in 1718. There was no other William Gillard living in Wendron or the surrounding parishes at this time. Elizabeth Gillard who married Thomas Moyle must have been the daughter of William, since between the end of the 1680s and the early 1700s William was the only Gillard in Wendron or surrounding parishes having children.
