William emigrated to America about 1854.
At the time of the 1860 U.S. Federal Census Wm. J. Temby, aged 24, born in England, laborer, was in Randolph Twp., Morris, New Jersey. Living nextdoor was William's future bride Rebecca Thomas (16) of New Jersey.
In 1870 William Temby, aged 35, born in England, miner, and wife Rebecca Temby, aged 26, born in New Jersey, were in Rockaway Twp., Morris, New Jersey. With them were children (both born in NJ): Leonora (8), attending school for 6 months, Henry (5), attending school for 2 months. William's sister Elizabeth Phillips & her family were living in the same county.
