In 1851, James Smith (48) of Camborne, miner, and wife Elizabeth (46) of Camborne, were living in Camborne Vean. Present were children (born in Camborne): James (16), miner, Maryan (14), William (13), John (11), Samuel (7)

In 1861, Jas. Smith (59) of Camborne, tin miner, and wife Elizth (56) of Camborne, were living in Beacon Hill, Camborne. Present were children: Wm. (22), tin miner, Jno. (19), tin miner, Samuel (17), tin miner, grandchildren (born in Camborne): Jno Thomas Smith* (6), scholar, Betsey Smith* (4), scholar

* These grandchildren were actually John Thomas and Betsy Thomas, children of daughter Mary Ann who married John Thomas in 1855, despite the fact they are called nephew and niece in the 1871 Census.

In 1871, James Smith (69) of Camborne, farmer of 7 acres, and [2nd] wife Prudence (68) of Illogan, were living in Village of Beacon, Camborne. Present were son William Smith (29) [sic], tin miner, nephew* John Thomas (16), tin miner, niece* Bessie Thomas (14), general servant.

18 March: The Will of James Smith late of the Parish of Camborne in the County of Cornwall, farmer, who died 11 February 1876 at Camborne, was proved at Bodmin by William Smith of Beacon in Camborne, farmer, the son, the sole executor.

James married Elizabeth VINE, daughter of John VINE and Anne TRELOAR, on 24 Dec 1832 in Camborne, Cornwall 1. (Elizabeth VINE was born in 1804 in Camborne, Cornwall, christened on 22 Jul 1804 in Camborne, Cornwall and died between 1861 and 1863 in Camborne, Cornwall.)
