Research Notes:
"Louisa Pearl Curnutt Thomas
KENNIWICK, Wash. - Louisa Pearl Curnutt Thomas passed away Monday, March 17, 2003.
Born in Clinton, Mo., on June 15, 1912, to Arthur and Ivy Curnutt, she joined a family of two brothers and four sisters. When she was 4 years old the family moved to Dillon, where another sister and brother were born.
She attended schools in Dillon and was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church there. She worked behind the soda fountain at the Westwood Cafe, where her bubbly personality and ability to make chocolate shakes caught the attention of a young man from Butte. It wasn't long before he convinced her to marry him and she became Mrs. Vivian W. Thomas in 1933.
A son, Vivian W. "Bill" Thomas Jr. was born to them in 1935. Vivian was a Safeway butcher and as such was moved from Dillon to Missoula and Helena. During World War II, Vivian served in the U.S. Navy Seabees, and Louisa and Bill were able to join him in Williamsburg, Va.
After the war, they returned to Dillon until 1955 and later lived in Butte; Cody, Wyo.; Billings; Hardin; and then Deer Lodge. During most of those years, Louisa worked in dry goods stores and as a clerk in the Beaverhead County treasurer's office.
After several years of retirement in Deer Lodge, Vivian passed away in 1986 and Lou moved to Missoula to be with her sister, Jean Prelat. The past three years she lived in Kennewick, Wash., to be near her son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Alta Thomas....
Her parents and husband preceded her in death, as did brothers, Myrl, Loren and John Curnutt; and sisters, Mildred Scott, Maude Bennett and Amber Hunt; and great-grandson, Justin Wentland.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law; granddaughters, Christi Wentland (Steve), Tracy Thomas and Lisa Julson (Mark); great-grandsons Dakota, Lane, Chase, Steve and Stephenie Wentland; and sisters Elsie Sassman and Jean Prelat."
