Frank H. (Uncle Frank) Knapp, Jr., 85, of Girard, Kansas died at 10:10 P.M., Wednesday, August 22, 2007, in the Girard Medical Center.
He was born December 10, 1921 in Weir, Kansas, a son of Frank H. and Inez (Squires) Knapp. He attended Weir Schools.
At a young age, he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps, working at Farlington, Kansas and in Minnesota planting fir trees. Frank operated heavy equipment on many roads and highways in the area. He later joined the Asbestos Insulators Union in Wichita and traveled extensively on various jobs. He retired in 1983 and spent much of his time gardening, hunting, fishing, and enjoying his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was baptized in the Methodist Church and a was 50 year member of the Girard Masonic Lodge No. 93, AF & AM.
Frank married Juanita Sharp in Topeka in 1952. She survives of the home.
Survivors include sons Frank H. Knapp, III of Girard and Tim Knapp of Springfield; a daughter, Rexanna Knapp of Pittsburg; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brothers Bob Knapp of Wichita and John Knapp of Pittsburg; sisters Sarah Hauser of Round Rock, Texas and Betty Kolkmeyer of Saginaw, Missouri and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Elizabeth Gardner, Mamie Smith, Mary Ellen Box, and an infant brother.... 2
