Research Notes:
Howard Bambrough, 31, of 1804 Fisher St., father of three children, died in a Madison hospital last night of injuries he received in a Tin Lizzie race at the Dane county fairgrounds Sunday. Bambrough was the third Tin Lizzie race driver to be fatally injured in Dane county within a year.
About 3,000 persons saw Bambrough injured Sunday when the car he was driving got out of control and rolled over on a curve. He suffered a fractured skull, compound fractures of both the upper and jaws and internal injuries. He did not regain consciousness after the accident. As a result of Bambrough's death, Coroner Wayne Fisher today publicly demanded that authorities act to prohibit Tin Lizzie races. Fisher pointed out that Ralph Collins, 51, Janesville, was fatally injured in a race at Sun Prairie May 30 and that Arlie Campbell, Middleton, was killed in a race last fall. "Everyone of these races has resulted in death to one of the drivers," Fisher said. "The cars are not fit to drive and the racers are compelled to sign statements signifying that they drive at there own risk. "The county Is going to have to do something to stop these races." Fisher said he planned to investigate the Bambrough accident today and said he believed there would be no inquest.
Bambrough is survived by his wife; three children, Mary Lou, Patricia and George; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Bambrough; two sisters, Mrs. Frederick Siewert and Mrs. Robert Cooper, all of Madison, and three brothers, Morris, Merrimac, and Homer and Elmer, Madison.... 2
