Edward RICHARDS Jr.

   Research Notes:

Shown as Edward Richards Jnr, son of Edward, in the marriage record. The IGI (no source information available) gives this Edward a christening date of 4 Aug 1832 which at first would seem to be incorrect, as that would make him the same as Edward son of Gilbert Richards & Jenefer Waters. Something does not add up here. There is no baptism entry for an Edward Richards son of Edward Richards in the Camborne parish register after 1808, and no children of an Edward Richards in Camborne between 1813 and 1835. The only Edward Richards born c.1832 who appears in the Censuses was Edward son of Gilbert. Gilbert had a brother called Edward Richards Jnr. who died in 1837 aged 29 years. A different Edward Richards also born in 1808 (son of John) married Margaret Harris in 1835. However, their son Edward was born in 1850.
Based on the above, it seems reasonable to assume that Edward Richards Jnr was call junior after his grandfather (a practice I've occasionally seen). If Edward called himself Edward Richards junior then the parish clerk would naturally assume his father's name was also Edward. So unless evidence to the contrary presents itself, Edward Jr. is presumed to be son of Gilbert, and grandson of Edward.

Edward Richards of William St. died aged 59 years [sic] (burial record). Edward's ages in the Censuses do not match the age provided by the informant on his death. He was closer to 62 when he died.

Edward married Mary Ann THOMAS, daughter of Henry THOMAS and Elizabeth WATERS (twin), on 3 Nov 1856 in Camborne, Cornwall ¹. (Mary Ann THOMAS was born in 1835 in Town, Camborne, Cornwall, christened on 21 Mar 1835 in Camborne, Cornwall ³ and was buried on 27 Sep 1904 in Camborne, Cornwall ¹.)
