Samuel Cornelius (35) of Virginia and wife Mary (22) of Michigan, were living in Winona, Township 107, Range 7, Winona, Minnesota. Present were children: Charles (7) of Michigan, William (4) of Michigan, and three lodgers.

"He was the son of Rev. Samuel Cornelius, D.D., an outstanding Baptist minister who, with Noah Davis, helped found the American Baptist Publication Society. Samuel Cornelius, Jr. graduated from Columbia College, Washington, D.C. in 1844 and was ordained as a Baptist minister October 18, 1848 at the Baptist Church at Tecumseh, Michigan.
Before his last pastorate at Little Rock, Arkansas, Rev. Cornelius served churches at Tecumseh, Michigan; Fond du Lac, Wisconsin; Winona, Minnesota; Portage City, Wisconsin; Portland and Salem, Oregon; Lapeer, Michigan; Indianapolis and Kokomo, Indiana; and Saguache and Pueblo, Colorado.
Rev. Cornelius and his first wife Lucy had a son Charles S. Cornelius; Lucy died in 1849. Samuel and his second wife Mary had a son W. L. Cornelius." 1
